Why
Seifer Almasy is one of those characters who have stuck with me ever since I first played Final Fantasy VIII. There’s just something about him—his confidence, his rebellious streak, and the way he carries himself. That I found instantly fascinating. He’s not just another rival or antagonist; he feels real, flawed, and incredibly compelling. His appearance is just as memorable as his personality, and I’ve always found it incredibly appealing. There’s this effortless coolness about him. For example the slicked-back blond hair, the piercing blue-green eyes that hold so much intensity, and of course, the iconic cross-shaped scar on his forehead. His outfit is another thing I love: that long, light gray trench coat with the red and black flame-like patterns on the sleeves just makes him stand out. Underneath, he wears a dark blue vest over a black shirt, with baggy blue pants and combat boots. It’s a mix of practicality and attitude, and honestly, it just looks really cool. If I’m being honest, I always thought he had one of the best designs in the entire game.
His rivalry with Squall is one of the most interesting parts of the story for me. Seifer isn’t just a one-dimensional bad guy. He pushes Squall, challenges him, and stands as his equal. But the more you see of him, the more you realize he’s not just trying to cause trouble. He has dreams, ambitions, and this idealized vision of being a heroic knight. That’s what makes his downfall so tragic. Ultimecia manipulates him, using his ambitions against him, and he falls into a path he can’t escape from. It’s heartbreaking in a way because you know he wanted more for himself.
As a fighter, Seifer is just as impressive as he is as a character. His Gunblade technique is aggressive, stylish, and full of personality. Watching him in action, with his signature smirk and effortless skill, makes every encounter with him exciting. He’s one of those characters that you just can’t ignore—whether you love him or hate him, he leaves an impact.
What makes Seifer truly special to me is his story. He dreams big, wants to be more than just another student at the Garden, and yet his choices ultimately lead him down the wrong path. But despite everything, he never really gives up. There’s something strangely admirable about that, even when you know he’s making mistakes.
Seifer Almasy isn’t just an antagonist. He’s one of the most complex, stylish, and unforgettable characters in Final Fantasy VIII. And that’s exactly why I can’t help but love him.
