Love: Rinoa Heartilly

Seifer and Rinoa have a history together, one that begins before the events of the game. It’s implied that they were close during their childhoods, and there are hints that they may have shared a romantic bond at some point. Seifer, with his charismatic yet reckless nature, was a natural attraction for Rinoa, who, despite her own idealistic and independent spirit, was drawn to his rebellious attitude.

However, the nature of their relationship is not one of lasting love or mutual understanding. Rinoa’s admiration for Seifer is clear early on, but it's a love that is born out of idealism, a dream of being with someone who represents strength and defiance. Seifer, on the other hand, seems to view Rinoa more as a possession or a symbol of his desire to fulfill his dream of becoming a Sorceress’ Knight. While he shows some level of affection towards her, his actions are often driven by his own selfish ambition rather than true emotional connection.

Rinoa and Squall

As the story unfolds, Seifer's pursuit of power and his alliance with Edea (and later Ultimecia) push him further away from Rinoa. Meanwhile, Rinoa’s feelings for Squall begin to blossom, and her connection with Seifer becomes more strained. Seifer’s actions, particularly his involvement with Ultimecia’s schemes, lead to him becoming an antagonist, which only deepens the emotional divide between him and Rinoa.

Rinoa’s relationship with Squall gradually shifts from rivalry to romance, and she becomes increasingly disillusioned with Seifer. She never loses all her affection for him, but her bond with Squall grows stronger as they face countless trials together. Rinoa’s love for Seifer is eventually overshadowed by her deep emotional connection with Squall, who offers her stability, empathy, and understanding, qualities Seifer could never truly provide.

Rejection

For Seifer, Rinoa represents an ideal that he can never fully attain. His fixation on becoming the Sorceress’ Knight consumes him, and he allows his pride and arrogance to push him further from those who care about him. When he loses Rinoa’s affection, it seems to be a reflection of his greater downfall—his inability to balance his dreams with the emotional connections that might have grounded him.

Though Seifer’s relationship with Rinoa is not one of true love, it does reflect his inner conflict: his desire for power and recognition versus his need for emotional connection. Rinoa, for her part, represents a fleeting dream, one that he fails to protect or nurture.

Seifer and Rinoa’s relationship is not one defined by love, but rather by the chaos of their circumstances. Rinoa's feelings for Seifer were based more on youthful admiration and idealism, while Seifer’s fixation on Rinoa was part of his larger pursuit of glory. They both evolve throughout the story, with Rinoa’s heart ultimately finding its place with Squall, and Seifer’s obsessive dreams leading him down a darker path. Though their relationship is complicated, it serves more as a reflection of Seifer’s flaws and misguided ambitions than a true romance.
