Gunblade

A Gunblade is a weapon, which is a hybrid combining a sword and a firearm. Squall Leonhart and Seifer Almasy both wield Gunblades in Final Fantasy VIII, but their weapons have distinct designs and functionalities.

1. Squall's Gunblade – "Revolver"

Squall's Gunblade, the Revolver, has a sleek, classic revolver-style gun handle and a straight, broad blade. It features a Griever emblem on the side. The Revolver utilizes a trigger mechanic—when Squall pulls the trigger at the right moment during an attack, the blade vibrates, increasing damage. Squall can upgrade his Gunblade throughout the game, with the Lion Heart being his ultimate weapon.

2. Seifer's Gunblade – "Hyperion"

Seifer’s Hyperion has a sleek, curved blade and a more modern semi-automatic pistol grip. Unlike Squall, Seifer doesn't need to manually trigger his Gunblade in combat—it seems to function automatically, likely due to his more aggressive, one-handed fighting style. Seifer wields his Gunblade with one hand, in contrast to Squall’s two-handed technique, emphasizing his more flamboyant and aggressive personality.

3. Key Differences through the FF Series:

Gunbreaker Gunblade (FFXIV)

In short, Squall’s Gunblade is more traditional and requires precise timing, while Seifer’s is more modern and fits his flashy, aggressive combat style.
