Water Palace, a blue sanctuary
The Water Palace has always felt like one of the quieter and more mysterious places in Secret of Mana. Surrounded by water and far removed from the chaos found in other parts of the world, it gives the impression of being a place where the Mana has been left untouched for generations. This is also where Randi first meets Luka. Living within the palace, she watches over the Water Seed and becomes one of the first people to give him a better understanding of what is happening to Mana. Her presence gives the location a very different feeling from the areas Randi has visited before. There is a sense that the palace is not simply another dungeon or story location, but an old sanctuary connected directly to the world of Mana.
Although the different Mana Palaces share many visual similarities, they each have their own character. The Water Palace feels especially peaceful, with its connection to water and the quiet surroundings making it stand apart from the more threatening locations encountered later in the game.
For Randi, the palace becomes an important place during the early part of his journey. It is where he meets Luka, learns more about the Mana Seeds, and receives guidance about where he should go next. Even after leaving it behind, the Water Palace remains one of those locations that gives Secret of Mana much of its sense of mystery and wonder.

The Seed
The Mana Seed is a source of magical power connected to the element it represents. Each seed helps to maintain the balance of Mana throughout the world. The Water Seed, protected by Luka in the Water Palace, is connected to the power of water and the flow of Mana itself.

The Scorpions
So, who exactly are the Scorpions? They are part of the forces working for the Empire, and like the rest of the Imperial forces, they are interested in the power hidden within the Mana Seeds. To them, Mana is something valuable that can be captured, used, and turned into a weapon.
Their involvement with the Water Palace is where things become particularly serious. The Water Seed is taken from its sanctuary, putting the balance that Luka has spent so long protecting at risk. What was once a quiet and protected place suddenly becomes another target in the Empire's search for Mana.
What makes these enemies somewhat amusing, however, is the contrast between their ambition and their actual understanding of what they are dealing with. They approach Mana as if it were simply another resource waiting to be claimed. The problem is that Mana is far older and far more powerful than anything the Empire can truly hope to control.
That does not make them harmless. Their actions have real consequences, and every Mana Seed that falls into the wrong hands brings the world closer to another major conflict.
The Water Palace is one of the first places where this becomes obvious. The Scorpions may believe they are simply taking another source of power, but their actions disturb something much larger. They interfere with the fragile balance between Mana, nature, and the world itself.
