Rinoa Heartilly is the daughter of
Julia Heartilly and the Galbadian Colonel Fury Caraway. Because of his involvement in the witch war, Rinoa turned away from him and, in protest, joined the forest owl, a resistance movement that seeks to restore Timber's independence.
On top of that she chose to use her mother's surname to show him her aversion. Taking on the Heartilly family name might also demonstrate how Rinoa idolizes her mother.
Rinoa is a very emotional person who finds it difficult to hide her feelings. For some people it is very exhausting because if something bothers her, she is not afraid to vent her anger. I think this is just like her mother since Rinoa isn't afraid of telling people what is on her mind. Also Julia told Laguna her true feelings and wasn't afraid to do it.
